Oxymetholone, commonly known as anapolon or anadrol, is a potent synthetic steroid with a 17-alpha-alkylated modification of dihydrotestosterone. Initially developed to address osteoporosis, anemia, and muscle wasting in malnourished individuals, Oxymetholone gained FDA approval for human use. Despite its effectiveness, the advent of non-steroidal alternatives led to a decline in its popularity, leading to the cessation of production by various manufacturers by 1993, including Syntex.
